Dilip Popat was born on 25th August 1954 in (Cholo) Thyolo, Malawi. He studied at the Rajkumar College in Rajkot, India from 1964 to 1973 and then went for further studies at the Medical College in Pune from 1973 to 1977. Dilip had to cut short his further education due to personal circumstances and returned to Malawi in 1977. He married his wife Neha in Rajkot, India in 1982 and had three wonderful girls. Dilip and Neha worked hard in their shop “Baba Brothers” and lived comfortably in Blantyre, Malawi until 1999. They then moved to the UK, and Dilip dedicated himself to a new career. Dilip played Hockey for the Indian Sports Club in Malawi and represented the club at International level. He was a founder member of the Oriental Club Cricket Team (1980) in Blantyre and was a prolific all rounder. He played Volleyball every weekend at Oriental when the hockey and cricket teams were not in action. He made a lot of friends whilst pursuing his love for sports, always smiling and known by all as a thorough gentleman. He was loved by all who knew him. Sadly, shockingly but peacefully, without any known illness, he departed for the heavenly abode on the night of Sunday 13th November 2011, after a hard day’s work. May his soul rest in eternal peace
